How Important is Insurance in SG?

edited June 2016 in SG Guide and Tips
Just to share, last 2008 when we landed here in SG, we didn't bother or think about having any insurance in Singapore. Most companies here, unlike in Philippines doesn't provide hospital benefit or health card to their employees. so if you get sick be prepared to spend at least an average of S$30 . per consultation, and depending on the medicine it will still go up.

Consultation cost wise is still manageable but if you get hospitalized, be prepared to spend thousands, depending on the hospital you are going to be admitted. In order to avoid the hassle, it is advisable to get at least the hospital insurance if you are planning to stay here in SG for the next couple of years. It will cost you around S$400 to S$500. you can also take a much more lower plan of $200 to $300 premium plan. comparing to the hospital charge the cost is definitely worth it during emergency. it is also a must to get one for your child if you have one or planning to raise your child here in SG.

  • just got my family an Hopitalization insurance from your friend. Thanks admin. this is really important. it will give you a peace of mind. especially sa mga anak natin. one time lang magkasakit at mahospital e ubos ang savings natin. :)

Hubby is ep (85$) and dp ako (91$) and my 2 kids (64$ each) per month. As charged kme pag naospital so we dont need to pay anything (though hindi maiwasan minsan na pay muna ang reimburse later on sabi ng local ko na agent). Aia also provides LOG (letter of guarantee) for foreigners so pag may LOG ka, nde k na hihingan ng deposit.
  • @bobong tama si @tambay7 , ang pagkakaiba lang paminsan ung perks. like for example pag nag punta ka sa govt ospital instead of private may cash back ka na 200 per day of confinement. pero sa ibang insurance probably bigger than 200 per day cash back. for my family naka Prudential kame. pwede kita refer sa Local friend ko kung gusto mo. ok sa kanya kasi, parati cyang may extra mile. like last time need pala ung diagnosis sa ospital pero nakalimutan ko. cya ang pumunta para kumuha parasakin for my reimbursement requirement :) kadalasan cya na rin pumupunta sa bahay ko para sa pag pirma ng reimbursement form ko which ako dapat ang gumagawa. hehe. I cant connect you to him if you need.

P.S. wala kong referral fee or anything.
  • At least dapat may health or hospitalization insurance talaga pag nandito sa sg.
  • I need agent po, planning to get insurance. Yung kaya po sa bulsa. Kasi medyo maliit pa sweldo.

    Salamat po
  • @Lablab pm ko sayo ung local friend kong Agent. he's been in the industry do decades. hehe. mabait ang hindi after the money or maka-close lang ng deal. :)
  • @lablab , why not try Health Insurance + Saving (which can withdraw anytime), a lot of them providing here. You can propose your budget like what I did. Cheers!
  • Life is unpredictable! kung stable ang trabaho at long term employment ang intensyon nyo sa SG mas maganda yang advice ni @carpejem " get a life insurance at include nyo Terminal Permanent Disability and Critical protector coverage. Yong kinuha ko sa AIA year 2011 ay nagkaroon na ako ngayon ng dividends na S$2300+ na this year at 60k insured amount and will keep on compounding.
  • @nmn Last time I don't care & not keen but since Policy covers until PH, so i took the chance. Also, the younger you are the lower the premiums, i regret those days , i should have done before
  • edited May 2017
@Samantha1 tama si tambay7 hindi covered ang panganganak. PERO! touch wood. may complication ngyari during panganganak covered. well for our plan.
  • @tambay7 hope pwede siya sa "other hospital services" as attached. better ask ko nalang direct sa insurer namin. ty @tambay7

  • @Admin employer insurance yan o personal? usually additional premium to cover pregnancy/delivery related complications.
  • @Samantha1 yup clarify mo yan sa insurer, usually yung "other hospital services", "miscellaneous hospital services" ay benefit allocation for Doctor's fee and other misc hospital charges.
  • @tambay7 employer insurance. gusto ko lang malaman for future reference at sa mga kababayan natin who are buntis holding work pass in sg.
  • @Samantha1 you can check Flexi Maternity Cover , add ons in your Policy.
