Expensive Hospital Bill in Singapore

My name is Marcus and working as a Financial Consultant in Singapore, cuz recently some of my foreigner friends complain about the expensive hospital bill (one of them got dengue fever and hospitalized in government hospital for 5 days, the hospital bill is around 5000 SGD, but his monthly income is only 3000 SGD...so he borrowed from me...and havent return yet). because this is quite related to my profession, i recommend that people working in Singapore at least need to get a Health Insurance (only around 40 SGD per month for young working adult) and in this way the hospital bill can be 100% covered. The Healthcare system in Singapore is designed in such a way that the cost ISN'T very affordable without insurance.   • This is a must talaga dito sa sg lalo na dun sa mga di covered ng company group insurance. Sa company din inde lahat covered at may mga ceilings sila.
  • yeah. advise ko rin sa mga bagong pinoy na kumuha ng hospital insurance kasi, masakit mag kasakit sa SG. masakit sa savings account. ilang days stay mo abutin ka ng isang buwan hanggang 4 na buwan sweldo mo. depende sa case.

    Tinanong ko po yung HR namin now lang re health insurance. Sabi po ay mandated ng MoM na dapat ibili ng company ng health insurance yung foreign worker.

    Kaso applicable lang daw po sa SPASS at Work Permit Holder.
  • @jrdnprs baka po may geoup insurance ung company nyo. Usually co pay pag ganun po.
  • Halos lahat ata ng listed company dito may group insurance. Kasi may alam ako na 24 lang sila sa kompanya nila at lahat sila may insurance galing sa company nila.

    Tinanong ko ulit yung HR. Sabi nya sakin, 15k daw max nung insurance ko. Pag lumagpas daw ako, dun ako magbabayad.

    Enough na ba yung 15k?

    Nagwowork ako sa isang local supplier as QS. Actually mag-isa lang ako na QS. Tapos 10 lang ata kami. XD

  • @jrdnprs kung mga minor cases sapat na po yan. Kung mga major naman, sigurado inde po yan sapat. Maging malusog at active na lang tayo.
  • sangayon ako kay @AhKuan, kapag may minor case sapat na po. Kapag sa private po mabigat ang bill, lalo napo ang bayad sa mga espesyalista. YUn sa company ko, ang cover lang sa Doctor fee ay nasa 1K lang ata, hindi pa kasama ang tax. Kaya advise nila huwag sa private pumunta.

  • Ok naman mga public hospitals dito. Ang problema lang mahaba pila kahit na sa admissions.

  • @jrdnprs ok naman public hospital dito. same exp kay @AhKuan grabe ang haba ng queue sa A&E. pero depende sa case mo naman. kung emergency talaga accomodate ka kaagad. :) pero pag normal. naku po.
  • hello po... we need to confirm po if yung 15,000 na coverage is work related injury lang ba or covered ba ang personal sickness natin. Kasi po required tayong bilihan ng company natin ng insurance under ng Workers compensation and normally covered lang po nun is work related injury and sickness.

  • Mas mabuti po na dito na lang tayo mag usap para na rin sa kaalaman nung ibang members dito.

    Interested po ako sa comparison(head on) with other insurance companies. Sa palagay mo ba kailangan yung $1M coverage for health? for example, ang isa sa pinaka mahal na procedure dito ngayon ay yung heart operation, mga $100K++ yun. So sa isang taon ilang beses ka ooperahan? Sa susunod na taon reset ulit yun sa $1M. Masyado atang overkill naman yung annual coverage nyo na $1M kahit pa sabihin natin na di natin alam mangyayari.

    Naka auto LOG po ba kayo ngayon or kailangan pa tawagan muna AXA?

    How affordable po yung premium nyo? Kailangan namin yung numbers inde words.

    Yung ibang beneffits nyo meron din po nyan sa ibang kompanya. Salamat.

  • Since karamihan po ng mga members dito ay PR at Pass holders, paki bigay na lang both. Salamat po.
  • yung pong mga nabanggit ko above e for our Plan A which is for Private Hospitals or Private Medical Inst.
    again po para po to sa mga PR ang may 365 post hospitalization coverage which is payable ng Medisave.

    So far po upon doing some policy reviews, nacompared namin ung premium from other companies and we are still considered cheaper and with better coverage. Especially yung 365 post coverage na kami pa lang ang meron. Yung 1 million na maximum limit po e covered nya ang pre and post hospitalization. covered nya not only the operation pati na ang recovery.

    i have a local friend po na survivor ng breast cancer and she spent almost 300k during lang po yun nung nahospital xa and iba pa yung during recovery period nya. what more pa po sa mga PRs na for sure higher ang magagastos.

    Para po sa under employment pass iba po ha...and tama po may mga company na nagbibigay ng group insurance sa mga employees nila but then mababa lang po ang coverage nun and most of the time need nyo muna magbayad out of your own pocket bago magtakeover ang plan o kaya namn need mo munang magabay then reimburse na lang sa inyo. Yung samin po meron kaming Card na issued sa policy holder and need lang ipresent sa hospitals for cash less admission.

    Kaya po importanteng alam natin kung anong benefits meron tayo from our company and lagi nating isipin if enough ba or hindi in case of uncertain events.

    Regarding po sa premium it depends as Age and prefer ninyong Plan depends po sa kung anong need ninyo.

    According din po dun sa MOH websiite, pareho lang ang premium at coverage nung lokal at PR pero sabi nyo mas mahal sa PR. Nalito po ako dun. Alin po ba ang tama?
  • Ahkuan, premium and coverage ay pareho pero ang charges ang magkaiba....

    and sinabi ko pong cheaper not the cheapest. and take note po hindi ibig sabhin na sila ang CHEAPEST go tayo lagi kasi DAPAT PO MAS IREVIEW NATIN ANG BENEFITS.

    Madami nga interested pero bakit tatawagan ka pa? Dito na lang po tayo magusap para malinaw sa lahat. Go na yan Ate. Pag nakumbinse mo kami dito, kami na mismo tutulong sayo kumuha ng mga referrals. Oks ba?
  • May tanong ako, bakit ganun sa unang year (newly signed) mababa ang premium para ma convince na mag sign, tapos after a year, bago mag renewal makaka receive ng notice na yung premium eh mas mataas na ng 25%-30%, consistent ba yearly ang pagtaas ng premium as the insured gets older?

    representative po ako ng AIA. Medyo madami rin ang mga insurance policies dito sa SG that caters for Hospitalisation benefits.

    -with their respective policy contracts (na dapat basahin maigi before buying. Policies does not cover Deductibles and Co-insurance. So it can be misleading to say na 100% ay ma-ccover sa hospital bills nyo.) The main differences between them are the class of Wards that you will be admitted to, and the LIMIT of claimable amount.

    Premiums (cost of insurance) ay based sa age group :)
