Job Hunting (Multimedia/Graphic Designer)
Hi, I'm currently in my second week of Job Hunting here in SG. I'm a Multimedia/Graphic Designer by profession. I applied on all the job sites I could find and sent resumes to both recruiment agencies and direct companies that I can find. I also had a walk in exam in one company and I feel nagawa ko naman lahat ng pinagagawa nila.
I was just wondering if you guys know some other companies here looking for a graphic designer/multimedia designers that you can refer to me?
I also have a few questions:
1. Are walk-ins still ideal? Like go to a probable studio/office and give them my resume? Same for recruiment agencies? Or would they rather check for resume submissions online?
2. Is it true that a company needs a waiting period for a position to be filled by locals, and that they can only get a foreign worker if it was not filled up by then?
3. Is one month too short for looking work here in SG? Or it really depends?
Maraming salamat po sa mga sasagot.
Thank you!

(straits time)
2. yes. (personal experience)
3. depende sa timing malapit na Chinese new year so busy mga company nyan at walang magreresign ksi naghahantay lahat ng "B" hehe.. saka depende rin sa linya mo..
Madalas interior design yung arts/creative eh.
Akala ko ang sabi ideal time mag apply is around CNY? Or dapat ba pumunta ako AFTER na ng CNY?
- Yes. Required kasi si employer na i-post yung vacancy sa Jobs Bank (Job portal for Locals/PRs) for 30 days. If wala silang proof na naipost sa Jobs Bank yung vacancy, irereject din ni MOM yung employment pass application for the foreigner. It's one way of ensuring that locals/PRs are prioritized for the position.
3. Is one month too short for looking work here in SG? Or it really depends?
Also, the ideal time is AFTER CNY, not during. Dahil most companies eh namimigay ng bonus few days before CNY. Of course, you wouldn't file for resignation bago mo makuha yung bonus. You file for it AFTER getting the moolah (tapos may 1 month notice period pa)
Pero swertihan padin kasi madami naman nakaka-land ng job kahit way before/after the CNY. Mas madami lang talagang vacancies after CNY. But think of it, madami ka ding ka-kompetensiya during that time dahil sa locals na maghahanap din ng bagong work.
Around 2 months ako nakahanap ng work. Yung notification, 1 day before expiry ng visit pass ko.
Well, payo ko especially sa mga graphic designer na naghahanap ng work, gandahan niyo portfolio niyo, research sa net at job sites, and kung willing kayo, pati mga recruitment agency. Sa interview, galingan mag english and highlight yung kaya niyong gawin. And apply ng apply. Everyday, sa lahat ng legit job site as possible. Indeed saka Jobstreet ako nakatsempo.
Also, while risky, kung kulang 1 month, try niyo mag exit. Basta di pa kayo nag overstay before, may chance na makabalik kayo.
It's your call though, swertehan din kasi.
If possible, apply kayo sa company na medium to large scale, mas likely may quota para sa inyo. Mas mabilis din approval.
Anyhow, good luck sa mga naghahanap! Yan ma sha share ko.
